Tracey DeMaria, OTD, OTR, is an accomplished author and occupational therapist with a lifelong dedication to promoting sensory and emotional regulation. Her professional journey began in 1992 at Colorado State University, where she studied occupational therapy. Tracey's passion for helping children and adults play, grow, and flourish led her to work in various clinic and farm-based occupational therapy settings, where she discovered the transformative power of music, animals, and the earth.
In 1997, Tracey settled in Northwestern New Jersey, where she continued her work in outpatient clinics, early intervention, schools, and hospitals. As the owner and director of Sensagration Whole Child Center, LLC, she honed her skills through advanced training and clinical work. Tracey's commitment to supporting parents of children with disabilities led her to host advocacy groups, run therapy groups and camps, and provide educational advocacy. She became a renowned speaker on mental health and sensory processing, presenting at national conferences such as the American Occupational Therapy Association National Conference and the School Social Workers National Conference.
In 2007, Tracey shifted her focus to her role as a parent and began working as an occupational therapist in public schools. She pursued further education in occupational therapy, earning a post-professional master's degree and eventually a Doctorate in occupational therapy in 2015 from Misericordia University in Dallas, PA. Currently, Tracey shares her love and knowledge of occupational therapy as an adjunct professor in the Occupational Therapy Master's program at Moravian University in Bethlehem, PA.
In addition to her clinical and academic pursuits, Tracey is a published author. Her first book, "How to Surf the Waves: A Sensory and Emotional Regulation Curriculum," is scheduled for release in early 2024. Drawing from her extensive experience, Tracey provides valuable insights and practical guidance in her book. She also contributes a chapter titled "Surviving the Tsunami" in the book "Life After Lockdown: Changing Perceptions of Autism."
Tracey resides in Easton, PA, where she cherishes spending time with her husband, teenage son, and their two dogs, Max and Navigator. As a proud neurodiverse individual, Tracey is dedicated to helping people of all ages and neurotypes understand the profound impact of sensory and emotional regulation. Her work as an author, clinician, professor, and advocate continues to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals and communities alike.
